My 33rd Birthday
I have always loved holidays, but often times I get let down because they are never the fanfare I expect them to be. This birthday was totally different! Thanks to all my family and friends who made it special for me.It actually started Thursday night. I went out to dinner with Lisa and Courtney to Macados. We had so much fun talking that we didn't notice how late it was until Lisa looked at her watch and said, "Is it really 10:53?" We all pull out our cell phones, see that it is indeed 10:53, and notice we all had missed calls from our spouses. We decided to call it a night, but plan on getting together again very soon. There are too many world problems we still have to solve. Friday morning I had to get up early to teach aerobics. When I got home though I innocently asked Ryan if he had a present for me. He had been teasing me all week and repeatedly kept asking me if I wanted my present early. I kindly said no, that I wanted to save it till my birthday. So, when I asked him if he had a present for me, he acted all offended. I headed towards the bedroom disappointed and ready to remove my sweaty clothes. When what to my wondering eyes should appear... but a jewelry armoire that matches our bedroom furniture. Now, I had decided that it was too expensive and I should wait till later, especially since we're starting the basement remodel (that's another blog). Don't get me wrong, I love it! All of my jewelry fits, with room to spare. I loved organizing it Saturday afternoon, which was almost as fun as getting the present. I know, I am so OCD.My kids at school were super sweet. We had our 4-H Share the Fun talent show. Two students from class, McKenzie and Beth, acted like they needed my help getting ready to go on stage. Then they drag me out on stage, give me flowers, and sing Happy Birthday to me. It was very thoughtful of them. I also got some gift cards from the kids, which is totally my favorite gift! The real celebration was Friday night. Ryan had reservations for us and several of our friends at Kabuki. We had a blast! I felt so honored to have friends who are willing to find babysitters, spend money on an expensive dinner, and leave their families to come and spend the evening with me. It was so much fun! I've included some clips from dinner. And don't feel bad for my postings of Ryan's goofy pictures. You have no idea how many times we had to take a picture before he would finally stop goofing off. ![]() Ryan & I At least I can say that one of us looks good in this picture, and no one will have to guess who it is. Holly & Kirby BillingsI met Holly when she taught my 5:45am aerobics class. Then we found out she lived down the street. Ryan and I started doing things with them and soon became friends. Holly and Kirby taught me how to play golf, enjoy the game of Farkle, and deal with large Beasts ;) We have both moved from 3rd Street, but we still manage to get together quite often. Thanks for the aerobic CD Holly! ![]() From left to right: Corwin & Lydia Paxton, Chris & Jen Mattson, Heather & Jeff Buchinsky These are my buddies from church. I can't even begin to thank all these ladies for everything they have done for me. So many times, I have needed someone to talk to, and of course they were there. I can always be myself around them and never have to feel like I am being judged or critized. They let me play with their kids whenever I need some kid time and let me talk about my infertility. I love these women so much! Satuday morning we spent the day cleaning and getting ready for the Harrison's to come and stay. Jared and Katie came to visit because Jared is starting medical school at Tech in the fall. Katie grew up with Ryan and her parents are good friends of my in-laws. They took us out to dinner at Texas Roadhouse. I got "yeehaaed" from the restaurant after being forced to sit on a sadle and wear a cowboy hat for my birthday. It was nice to get to know them and try to ever so easliy urge them to live in Radford. Sunday was too busy for our usual family dinner. I had choir before church, a Relief Society training after church, and a visit to the Mattson's in the evening. (By the way, thanks again for the broccoli and cauliflower sprouts Jen). So, we did my family dinner on Monday. I had the hardest time deciding what I wanted to eat, but finally settled on chicken casserole, green beans, applesauce, and brownies. Mom and Dad got me G-2 pens, cute earrings, and a dress that may or may not fit. Jessica was super sweet and got me a necklace set. Michael and Tracy gave me money. Now I have enough to buy a new cutting board for my scrapbooking desk. My birthday was awesome! Thanks everyone for all you did. I feel so blessed to have you all in my life. Comments: Happy, Happy Birthday!!!! It all sounds like it is fabulous! I love your armoire!! Comments: Duh...I spelled because wrong... Comments: Happy Birthday (late) NIkki! Miss you tons!
